Tragedy in volleyball: Walewska Moreira de Oliveira is dead

A'huge tragedy overwhelms the volleyball world.

Walewska Moreira de Oliveira è died at just 43 years of age. An active volleyball player until last year (she had retired in 2022 leaving Praia Clube), throughout her career she had collected trophies everywhere including a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Also known in Italy, she had played in Perugia between 2004 and 2007, winning the scudetto in her first and third seasons in Umbria.

The tragedy è occurred in São Paulo, where Walewska was living. According to Brazilian media reports, starting with the newspaper 'O Globo', the former player è plunged from the 17th floor of her apartment building. The circumstances of her death are being investigated by investigators.

'O Globo' reported initial information from the local police precinct that the 17th floor of the Walewska apartment building houses the recreation area and is è "accessible only to residents through a glass door with facial biometrics". The woman reportedly entered the facility at 4:50 p.m., as recorded by the monitoring system.

"She was a special player. Her exploits will be remembered and celebrated forever", commented the president of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation, Radames Lattari.
