The road Italy will have to travel to get to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is beginning to take shape. After qualifying for the Pre-Olympic Tournaments achieved through the World Cup in the Philippines last summer, coach Gianmarco Pozzecco’s national team will know the venue and opponents for the Pre-Olympic tournament (July 2/7) on Monday, Nov. 27, the day FIBA will make the group draw at the Mies headquarters in Switzerland (7 p.m., live YouTube).

Today, the International Federation released the six brackets for the draw and the criteria that will govern it.
Italy, according to FIBA ranking, è has been placed in the number 2 bracket with Brazil, Greece and Poland.
On Monday, 4 tournaments of 6 teams each will be composed, each consisting of 2 rounds of 3 teams. The top two finishers in each bracket will play semifinals and finals. The winner of each of the 4 Pre-Olympic Tournaments will detach the pass for the French Olympiad (July 26/August 11).

The 4 host countries will be announced on Monday, Nov. 27 during the morning.

These are the six bands:

1. Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia
2. Brazil, ITALY, Greece, Poland
3. Puerto Rico, Montenegro, Dominican Rep., Finland
4. New Zealand, Georgia, Mexico, Lebanon
5. Croatia, Ivory Coast, Angola, Philippines
6. Egypt, Bahamas, Cameroon, Bahrain

Teams from brackets 1, 4 and 5 will make up bracket A while teams from brackets 2, 3 and 6 will make up bracket B.

The draw will also observe the following criteria:
1. There may be a maximum of 2 European teams in each bracket and a maximum of 3 European teams for each Pre-Olympic Tournament.

2. There may be a maximum of one American team in each bracket.

3. There mayà be a maximum of one Asian and Oceanic team per Pre-Olympic Tournament.

4. There mayà be a maximum of one African team per Pre-Olympic Tournament.

These are the teams already certain of a place in the Olympic Basketball Tournament: France (host country), Germany, Serbia, Canada, USA, Australia, South Sudan and Japan.
