Superleague, rain of no’s: Inter, Roma and all the others
SuperLega, Roma and Inter say no
The EU court ruling declaring the SuperLega project legitimate has elicited several mixed reactions from different members of the soccer world, from UEFA president Ceferin to Real Madrid owner Florentino Perez. On the issue, Roma also wanted to take a clear position through a statement on its official channels.
"Following today's ruling issued by the European Court of Justice on the Superleague case, AS Roma reiterates its position in respect of the values and future of European soccer. The club in no way supports any plans for a so-called Superleague, which would represent an unacceptable attack on the importance of national leagues and the foundations of European soccer. AS Roma believes that the future and well-being of soccer can only be ensured with the joint work of the clubs through the ECA, in close cooperation and partnership with UEFA and FIFA" this is the note issued by the Giallorossi club.
In addition to the Capitolini, Inter also wished, through its official channels, to express its will not to take part in the Superleague project: "FC Internazionale Milano reiterates its conviction that the future of European soccer can only be guaranteed by cooperation between clubs within the ECA and in partnership with UEFA and FIFA. As a club, we remain strongly anchored in the values that characterize the European sports model and are committed to working together with all the other clubs gathered in association by the ECA to uphold these values".
In addition to the two Italian clubs, other top European clubs, through releases issued on their official channels, have also expressed their willingness not to take part in the Superleague project: Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.
