Darren Cahill already knows what needs to be done to keep Jannik Sinner winning

Here are the words in the press conference reported by Supertennis of Darren Cahill, the Australian coach who together with Simone Vagnozzi has been instrumental in helping Jannik Sinner’s performance grow exponentially, which led him to lead Italy to the Davis Cup and today to the historic triumph at the Australian Open.

"Daniil played an incredible match considering his efforts during these two weeks. We knew he would start strong, moreù aggressive than usual, but we didn’t think he would be able to maintain that level soì long throughout the first two sets".

"The break we made in the second set gave us a glimpse of some light er the first time during those two first sets and thatò allowed Jannik to have more confidence in the beginning of the third".

"But also theì, I think he did a very good job in a couple of games at bat to keep it, which è was really important given how Daniil was serving. There were moments in the match when he was putting up 5 out of 6 firsts and it was hard to break him. If we had broken serve in the first few games of the third set it would have been really hard to get back into the match".

"My contribution in the match è was less than that offered by Simone, because it was up to him to find a way to get Jannik back on track. Once he succeeded, è it was just struggle becauseé Daniil è a player who never gives up".

"We compared often during the match Simone and I and made some adjustments and he was then reporting these messages. He really did an incredible job with Jannik in the last two years. But then once you get to the fourth and fifth set it all depends on what you have inside and Jannik inside sé had the right answers. You have to challenge yourself and push yourself beyond your limits to react to moments like you experienced today, dare great shots, believe in it and have the courage to go for it when it mostù counts".

"I have done nothing but reinforce the concepts we have been talking about these days: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But it certainly helped him today to keep his focus on the match, and è it was very important".

"Sì, I think he can really be considered as a star. Right now the sport doesn&#39t have many: I think Carlos is very much like Jannik in that, they play with great transport and it reflects in their tennis, and then they&#39re good guys, they have good character and off the court they also get along. È a friendly rivalry, theirs. When they face each other they turn on each other, I don&#39t think there has been a single boring match they have played".

“Our job è to keep pushing it. It's just the beginning of the season, the year's still long and it's just now to enjoy this moment. But when we get back on a tennis court we will make sure we try to get him to maintain this right attitude, which è what it takes to keep winning".

“Are there any differences from other winning teams I’ve worked on? Well, the answer for me è simple becauseé I am working with the best coach I have ever worked with – Simone. I had never worked with a coach like him and I must say that he is doing an incredible job".

"Moments like this are special. The feeling ch you get in the whole team when your player can achieve something soì great è fantastic. And Jannik made us feel it".

"This then è even more so; becauseé we are a very close team. The Italian guys are always with each other and they work hard without giving up having fun. È an excellent work culture. Everyone respects everyone and no one stands superior to anyone else, we are all on the same level. Everyone is listened to, everyone has an opinion, even Jannik, and we all try to deepen them by pursuing what è the best for him".

"This Italian team è really special, I love them all already; madly. I’ve only been with them for a year and a half but è like I’ve known them for five. We really have a wonderful relationship".
