Women’s World Water Polo Championships, eighth gold to the United States
The United States women’s national team won the eighth world water polo title in its history by beating Hungary 8-7 in the final of the ongoing rainbow tournament in Doha.
The U.S. managed to hold off a Hungarian comeback in the final minutes thanks in part to 12 saves ;by Ashleigh Johnson, adding a new trophy to those won in 2003, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
In the bronze medal match, Spain beat Greece (10-9), while Italy earlier in the morning had beaten Canada 18-12 in the final for seventh place, earning a pass to the Paris Olympics.
