In the second-round match of the Internazionali d’Italia played at night on the Foro Italico center Luca Nardi, world number 81, has to yield to the Danish Holger Rune, number 12, who on his debut in the tournament beats him with a double 6-4 in an hour and 42 minutes of play.
Rune snatched Nardi’s serve already at 1-1 in the first set, the 20-year-old from Pesaro after going 0-40 nullified two break points but on the third he could do nothing.
In both the next two service games Luca saved himself by recovering from 0-30 and without conceding break balls but on the Dane’s serve he had no chance and Rune closed the partial set by holding the serve to zero.
Nardi’s chances come at 2-1 in his favor in the second set: Rune goes 0-40 on his own serve but saves himself and in the same game saves three more break points for a total of six. Luca obviously suffers the blow and in the next game è he breaks serve at 15.
The’last chance Nardi lha when Rune serves for the match on 5-4 and goes 15-30, but the Dane wins a first match point, misses it but then on the second, won after an exchange of an incredible violence, è Nardi to miss.
