The words of Angelo Binaghi

Angelo Binaghi, president of FITP, spoke about Jannik Sinner, the new world number one, on the sidelines of the event presenting the new partnership between Unicredit and ITF for the Davis Cup. "Now è a new story has started for Jannik,” he emphasized, “because he has 15 years ahead of him, the ones that separate him from Djokovic, and  the bet will be how many Slams he will win, how many Masters 1000s, Rome, Davis Cups, ATP Finals he will bring home, how many weeks, even in different periods, he will remain world number 1".

"So we are talking about a film and a story, with good peace to Wilander, that also comes out of our perspectives, our history, our capabilities" added the Federtennis number one, replying to Wilander, who in a very recent interview with Equipe had sided with Carlos Alcaraz, winner of Roland Garros.

"Jannik è took off, we will stand by him, rooting for him, but I said in unsuspected times in September when you all wanted to slaughter him because he had not played in the Davis Cup that he had done well because; our perspective was not to win that Davis Cup match but to have in the next 10, 15 years one of the top three players in the world like Nadal, Federer and Djokovic were becauseé that would have changed the history of Italian tennis".

"Even after six months we have number 1…what do I care what Wilander says? We have gone much but much faster. If he also remained number 3 for 15 years we would still have solved the problem of Italian tennis but Jannik will do much more than remain number 3 for 15 years" concluded Binaghi.
