Italvolley heads the series at Olympic draw

The 2024 Olympic women’s tournament pool draw will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19. At 6:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. Italian time) at PalaHuamark in Bangkok, venue of the women’s VNL Finals (scheduled for June 20-23), Italy’s coach Julio Velasco will know the opponents to cross in Paris.

The first phase of the tournament will see 12 national teams take the field divided into 3 pools. At the end of the first phase, the top 2 from each pool plus the two best thirds will advance to the quarterfinals. France, seeded 1 in the draw as the host country, will be in Pool A; Brazil, 1° in the world ranking and seeded 2, in Pool B, while Italy, 2° in the ranking, will be in Pool C as seeded 3. The national teams in bracket 2 will be Turkey (3° ranking place), Poland (4° ranking place) and USA (5° ranking place); those in bracket 3, China (6° ranking place), Japan (7° ranking place) and Holland (8° ranking place); and finally the teams in bracket 4 will be Serbia (9° ranking place), Dominican Republic (11° ranking place) and Kenya (20° ranking place). For each bracket, a draw will be made to determine in which Pool each national team will be placed. The draw of the Pools of the Women’s Olympic Tournament will be streamed live on the YouTube channel of Volleyball World.

Meanwhile, the Italian women’s team, since yesterday in Bangkok, have been working on the court ahead of their Finals debut set for Friday, June 21 (at 12:00 p.m. Italian time) against USA. Up for grabs will be access to the GNL semifinals against the winner of the other quarter, Turkey-Poland (June 21 at 3:30 p.m. Italian time).
