Taken from the Fipav website, here are statements from the coach of Italy men’s volleyball team Ferdinando De Giorgi, which resoundingly came back from a two-set deficit against Japan to qualify for the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament.

“Let's say that turning this match è it was a feat becauseé Japan played extraordinarily and deserved too, we have to say that becauseé the differenceè was really minimal. They played extraordinarily well, we maybe the second set could have carried it on our side because weé we had led it quite well then foré we were not able to close it”.

"Però to see how the guys stayed until the end looking for a solution, always adding something more, reacting in the right way and not in desperation, è was something really nice. Playing against a team that defends like that è very complicated becauseé psychologically you can get down, be a little bit’ frustrated when you see that your attacks are always defended and nullified by great defenses".

"It was important to stay solid and the guys did that, then we fixed something in the rebuilding phase and from that point on things were definitely better. Then forò I kept telling the boys to stay there with their heads and try and believe it all the way. In the end then ours were points earned and not by luck, so the satisfaction è a lot. Ours è a very compact group, we have been working since 2021 for goals like this. Our wealth of experience è continually growing, we will see what will happen ”.
