Paris 2024 Olympics, Italy sets record with pentathlon
Bronze in the pentathlon
Third medal of the day for Italy, the ninth counting the six of yesterday but especially the thirty-ninth in total: tomorrow with the volleyball girls we will surely reach 40, thus equaling the all-time record of podiums set three years ago in Tokyo.
Making history after bronze in rhythmic gymnastics and silver in madison was Giorgio Malan, third in the modern pentathlon behind Egypt's Elgendy and Japan's Sato. The Italian attacked to perfection in the Laser Run, after an excellent result in swimming, with which he made up for the less positive trials in horseback riding and fencing.
Italy won a total of 40 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new record for the number of metals placed around its neck in a single edition of the Olympic Games.
