Carlos Sainz at Monza: promise to Ferrari, message to Charles Leclerc
The last one in red before goodbye is well worth some promises.
Carlos Sainz and Ferrari will experience their last Italian Grand Prix together next Sunday at Monza, before the Spaniard leaves his red car to Lewis Hamilton and starts again with Williams. That is also why it will be a very special weekend for him, as è easy to understand from his statements on Thursday. Which focus, among other things, on current teammate Charles Leclerc.
"In Formula 1 I learned that you never know, so many times è it happened that a driver came back to race for a team he had already left,” Sainz noted. “I know that if you have driven for Ferrari, you will remain a Ferrarista forever. I have given my all for the team in the last four years, now I leave an important chapter of my life but for the future I do not exclude anything".
Also crucial is the chapter concerning Leclerc, and the possible battles between the two at Monza. On the issue, Sainz has spoken clearly: "Closing the season ahead of Charles in the standings is not è important at all. It would not be fair to compare us, since I ran one race less. So I’ve stopped thinking about it since Jeddah, I’m much more interested in; collecting the most podiums for Ferrari. Or, maybe, victories".
Impossible però not to think back to Monza 2023, when Leclerc and Sainz battled for a long time, exhilarating, frightening and infuriating (as the case may be) the many Ferrari fans. "In fact, last year we went a little overboard. Over the course of a season it can happen 2-3 times to have a few sparks. When it happens, però then we meet in private to talk about it. And every time we manage to calm the waters", assured the Spaniard.
