FISI in mourning: all activities suspended for Matilde Lorenzi
FISI’s condolence message
Italian sport mourns the tragic death of Matilde Lorenzi. The 19-year-old skier è died after the terrrible accident that occurred while she was training on the Val Senales glacier in South Tyrol. Through a lengthy comuicato, FISI wanted to send a message of condolence to the family of the young hopeful, also announcing the cancellation of all daily activities due to mourning.
"Matilde Lorenzi has left us. News of this is given by the Ministry of Defense, which expresses the deepest condolences for the 19-year-old Army spokesperson. Also joining the family’s grief is President Flavio Roda, who has no words to express the tragedy being experienced by the entire Italian Winter Sports Federation, its coaches, athletes, teammates, the Federal Council and the entire staff.
Matilde è was the victim of a fall during a training the team was doing on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales.

Matilde Lorenzi, born in Villarbasse in the province of Turin, è fell while skiing down the Grawand G1 slope, violently hitting her face against the snowpack, then è ended up off the slope. The skier è was rescued by carabinieri from the Selva Val Gardena Training Center and coaches: the girl è was intubated and transported to St. Maurice in Bolzano, where è died.
Matilde Lorenzi last season had won the Italian overall and youth title in super-giant in Sarentino, and had achieved flattering placings in the junior world championships in Chatel, France. She had a sister, Lucrezia, also a skier.
