Civitanova vs. Modena: more than 30 years of challenges

Recovering from the clear victory in the Czech Republic in the first round of the Volleyball Challenge Cup, Cucine Lube Civitanova is immediately back in SuperLega Credem Banca mode ahead of challenge number 110 with Valsa Group Modena, scheduled at the’Eurosuole Forum, Sunday, November 17 (6 pm).

The precedents see the red and white ahead with 62 wins, against 45 successes of the Modenese, the result of 235 sets won by the cucinieri against 192 gone to the Emilians.

The two teams crossed paths for the first time on Oct. 14, 1993: the 1993/94 Serie A1 and A2 Italian Cup Sixteenth Finals were being played in Macerata, and the Modena battleship won in three sets against a Lube still in A2. Three years later the cucinieri signed the first success over the gialloblù in the top series, on the 9thª return day of the 1996/97 A1 tournament, before the advent of the Rally Point System. The two teams crossed paths three times last season. Lube won by the largest margin the two Regular Season matches and è repeated 3-1 in the 1° round of the 5° Place Play Off Round at’Eurosuole Forum.

The highest-scoring match in the history of precedents dates back to the 2017/18 season. In Game 3 of the Semifinal Play Off Scudetto, Lube won 3-2 at the’Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova Marche with the scores of 27-25, 33-35, 25-16, 22-25, 21-19, for a total of 248 points.

The cucinieri also boast a maximum total gap of 25 points against the canarini, obtained in the’8ª return day of the 2018/19 SuperLega, with the partials of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-19. Modena, on the other hand, è managed to obtain a favorable difference of 24 points, won in the 1995/96 championship: it was the first time Lube faced the canarini in the top league. The Emilians won with the partials of 15-9, 15-7 and 15-5.

In the 3-1casual for Civitanova in the’s debut in the Play Off Group 5° Place 2023/24, Modena left Balaso and his teammates trailing by 10 points in the 4° setting the record for the partial with the largest gap between the two teams.

Lube previously won an outside set 25 to 12, exactly the third set in the 2014/15 Del Monte® Coppa Italia Semifinal played at PalaDozza in Bologna and won by Modena retaking the cucinieri from’1-2 (25-19, 23-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-11).

Numerous hard-fought sets in the preceding history. The Emilians have twice won a 33-35 partial: in the first set of the 8th return match of the 2010/11 championship at home to Lube in the match then won 3-0 and in the second set of Game 3 of the 2017/18 Play Off Semifinals, although in that case the red-and-whites then won in the tie break. On the opposite side, Civitanova won one set 34-32, that is the 3° and last set of the triumphant Game 3 of the 2013/14 Play Off Semifinals, when Lube won in three sets (25-20, 25-20 and 34-32).
