Sofia Goggia returns to the giant after almost a year
The first event of the 2025 Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup will be on the Kranjska Gora slope in Slovenia, where a giant slalom will be held on Saturday, January 4 (first run at 9:30 a.m., second run at 12:30 p.m. with live TV coverage on RaiSport and Eurosport) and a slalom on Sunday, January 5 (first run at 10 a.m., second run at 1 p.m.).
Prominent among the Italian women racers summoned is the return to competition among the wide gates of Sofia Goggia, almost a year after’s last appearance in the specialty, who will be joined by Marta Bassino, Federica Brignone (red leader bib thanks to her successes in Soelden and Semmering), Roberta Melesi, Asja Zenere, Elisa Platino, Ilaria Ghisalberti, Lara Della Mea and Giorgia Collomb.
On Sunday, however, Martina Peterlini, Marta Rossetti, the same Della Mea and Collomb will be present, in addition to Lucrezia Lorenzi and Vera Tshurtschenthaler who complete the team.
The precedents on the Podkoren track speak of two blue victories thanks to Marta Bassino, who conquered a fantastic double in 2018 twenty-four hours apart. The same Cuneo è was second in 2023 and third in 2022, while Federica Brignone collected a second place in 2023 and 2012 and a third place in 2024. Sofia Goggia was third in 2018 and Nicole Gius second in 2007.
