Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton’s turn: the Blue’s crazy record against the Americans
After surging past the Alex De Minaur hurdle, Jannik Sinner faces Ben Shelton of the United States on Friday in the semifinals, the last wall separating him from a second consecutive Australian Open final. The record between the two favors the Blue, who has won four out of five matches, winning the last four in a row (the last in Shanghai in two sets).
Another number blows in the San Candido athlete's favor: the South Tyrolean champion has an impressive 14-0 record against American tennis players in Grand Slam tournaments. Ben Shelton, winning in four sets against Lorenzo Sonego, will try to break Sinner’s long streak.
Shelton knows he will have to do better against Sinner than he did with Sonego: "I have to keep my percentage of firsts high, first of all" said the American, who if he outlasts the Italian will enter the ATP Top 10.
