Jannik Sinner stronger even than blisters: he folds Cerundolo and flies to the quarters in Rome

The adventure of Jannik Sinner at the Internazionali d’Italia continued. In fact, the South Tyrolean won in two sets over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo with a score of 7-6 6-3, after a battle lasting two hours and seventeen minutes of play.
The start of the match is immediately heart-stopping, with Cerundolo being forced to save no less than four break points before holding serve. In the fifth game, however, came three more opportunities for the South Tyrolean, and the third was the good one to snatch the serve. The joy for Sinner, however, lasts very little, as Cerundolo places the counter-break in the next game on the sixth attempt. At that point, the two players become more solid on serve and the match thus slides to the tie-break, where the world number one manages to raise the level and make the first partial his with a clear 7-2.
The second set began with a chill for the South Tyrolean, who at the end of the third game was forced to call medical time-out due to a blistering problem on his right foot. The danger having passed, the world number one returns to the court with the right attitude, immediately hitting the break. Cerundolo, for his part, suffered the psychological backlash and the Azure took advantage to double the lead in the sixth game.
The Argentine, with his back against the wall, managed to recover one of the two breaks after also canceling two match points. In the eighth and decisive game, Cerundolo’s resistance became even more extreme, but Sinner did very well to strike back blow after blow, nullify two break points and finally close the score on the third match point.
The Argentine was able to win the quarterfinals.
At the quarterfinals, Jannik Sinner will face the winner of the match between Norway’s Casper Ruud and Spain’s Jaume Munar.
