Fear for Jos Verstappen, scary accident for Max’s dad

During the Loyers stage of the 43rd edition of the Wallonia Rally (fourth round of the Belgian championship), Jos Verstappen (father of four-time world champion Max Verstappen) was involved in a violent accident at the wheel of his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. The Dutchman lost control of the car in a rapid succession of turns, ending up off the road before hitting a tree with his left side and then flipping over.
Unfortunately, despite the serious damage to the Skoda, both Jos Verstappen and co-driver Jasper Vermeulen emerged from the cockpit without consequence, immediately reassuring emergency responders of their condition.
The understanding between Verstappen and Vermeulen was proving positive, despite some initial organizational difficulties: for the co-driver, in fact, this was his first experience with notes dictated in English. Having overcome the adaptation, the crew had shown excellent pace, managing to climb up to third place in the overall standings before the accident.
After his long experience in Formula 1 (from 1994 to 2003), Jos Verstappen has in recent years found a new competitive dimension in the world of rallying. Having ended the path that accompanied his son Max’s rise to the top of Formula 1, the 53-year-old Dutchman has returned to competing consistently on asphalt and dirt, winning just last season’s Belgian championship title.
