L'Olimpia moves on the market: Alec Peters prefers it to another big one

Alec Peters, born in Washington on April 13, 1995, is an American big forward with Bosnian citizenship who is considered one of the most reliable players in Europe. At 206 cm by 107 kg, he combines physicality with great accuracy on the outside shot, qualities that made him a star in the Euroleague with Olympiacos. After several seasons at a high level, his future now seems to be headed toward Milan: at the end of April 2026 he is close to a two-year deal with Olimpia, preferred over other major destinations such as Barcelona.

A landing in Milan would represent a sort of circle closing for Peters, already well known to Olimpia insiders. In February 2022, on the eve of a Euroleague challenge against Baskonia, it was coach Ettore Messina himself who pointed to him as one of the main dangers to be neutralized, pointing out how Peters’ presence as a big wing opened up the court and created spaces for his teammates’ penetrations. An explicit recognition of the qualities of a player who evidently remained on the meneghino club’s sights well beyond that single game.

The origins of Peters’ European path sink into the 2017 NBA Draft, when he was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 54th overall call. A late pick, in the second round, that did not open the doors of the American league for him on a stable basis, but represented the springboard to a high-profile career in continental basketball, where he has been able to establish himself to the point of becoming one of the most respected foreigners in the Euroleague.

The Olimpia that is preparing to welcome him is a team back from a complicated European season, closed without access to the post-season for the fourth consecutive year. The last day of the Euroleague saw the red-and-whites lose in Piraeus itself to Olympiacos, Peters’ team, with coach Peppe Poeta nonetheless keen to emphasize the positive aspects: “We played a serious game, as I had asked the guys. I am quite satisfied, but our third quarter was not good enough to compete until the end.” A knockout that sanctioned the European elimination, but that did not extinguish the club’s ambitions in terms of the future, starting precisely with market moves such as the one that would bring Peters to the Olimpia jersey.
