The Rangers-Celtic duopoly endures in the Scottish league. Celtic Glasgows became Scottish champions for the 56th time, overtaking Hearts on the very last day in a direct clash.

The Edinburgh team, at the top for most of the season, dreamed of breaking the dominance of the two Glasgow teams, which has lasted since the 1984-1985 season: but Derek McInnes’ lineup succumbed at the very best, being overtaken right at the end of the last game by the Bhoys, who thanks to this title have overtaken Rangers as well as the championships won.

The Hearts had gone ahead at Celtic Park in the 43′ thanks to Shankland’s penalty, but in the dying minutes of the first half they conceded 1-1 by Engels on a penalty kick. In the very tense second half they managed to hold on until the 87th minute, when Maeda, served by Osmand, scored the 2-1 goal, breaking the spell.

In the dying minutes it was Osmand himself who signed the final 3-1 that crowned Celtic champions of Scotland once again. For the Glasgow team, it is the thirteenth title in the last fourteen years; Hearts are left with great bitterness over the shattered dream.
