Carlo Calcagni: stunning new world record

World Paralympic champion Carlo Calcagni accomplished another great feat, setting a new world record in the 200-meter T72 at the Nottwill International Grand Prix.
“29”32. A number?! Just a number for those looking at a ranking. For me it is a story,” he wrote on social media. “It is the story of a man who many times was given up for defeat. Of a person who has learned to live with pain without allowing it to become the master of his life. Of an Athlete who keeps showing up at the starting line when he would have a thousand reasons to stop.”
“Today, at the International Grand Prix in Nottwil, with 58 nations participating, I won the 200-meter T72 by setting a new World Record. But the greatest victory is not the RECORD. The greatest victory is the emotions experienced meter by meter. I had made a promise. I kept it.”
“And now this immense joy must be shared, because the most beautiful victories never belong to one person. This record belongs to my family … to those who support me every day … to my coaches … to my teammates … to those who believe in me … to those who continue to fight an illness … to those who are facing a battle that seems impossible.”
“To all of them I want to say one thing: do not allow, ever, anyone to determine what your limits are. Limits exist to be overcome. Difficulties to be faced. Falls to teach us how to get back up. If this World RECORD can mean anything today, then I would like it to be this: do not stop, ever, believing that the best is yet to come. I keep running. Not against opponents. But for the sake of life. Never give up, despite everything and everyone, whatever it takes. Carlo Calcagni.”
