Lazio says goodbye with a win, Pedro with the'last goal

Lazio ended the championship with a comeback victory at the Stadio Olimpico against relegated Pisa in Serie B. The Biancocelesti won 2-1 at the end of a season more bitter than sweet, without qualification for the European cups and with the Coppa Italia faded despite winning the final. The most special moment of the last Saturday night of the championship is therefore represented by the goal of Pedro, scoring in his last game in the Capital.

For Pisa, the goal of pride arrived at 23′, after an opening post for Lazio hit by Marusic. Moreo scored, perfect with a header on Aebischer’s suggestion after a nice ball recovery by Calabresi. Furlanetto avoided the resounding double on Angori’s great shot, then at 33′ came the equalizer with Dele-Bashiru, who with a classy shot exploited in the best way the assist with so much tunnel from Belahyane. The match then closed at 35′, with Pedro’s final left-footed signature. Low rhythms of the resumption, where the main breakthrough came as time expired with Maldini: Semper says no.

The victory allows Lazio to close in the left side of the standings, thus avoiding the most uncomfortable position in the Top 10. For Pisa, on the other hand, a first season in Serie A after thirty-four years of absence from the top flight closes in the worst way: just two victories won during the entire season, both at home, against Cremonese and Cagliari, with relegation having already become mathematical at the beginning of May after the home knockout with Lecce.

Lazio’s seasonal balance sheet is far from consoling. In the league, the summer lockout at the market, which forced Maurizio Sarri to often make a virtue of necessity, weighed heavily. In the Coppa Italia the journey had been exciting, but only until the final act, in which Inter got the better of them with a clear 2-0 win. As icing on the cake, the biancocelesti lost the derby della Capitale 2-0 on the penultimate day, with Mancini authoring a double header for Roma.

It is no coincidence, then, that Maurizio Sarri’s future on the biancoceleste bench now seems sealed. The Tuscan coach will almost certainly leave Rome, with Atalanta ready to welcome him after parting ways with Raffaele Palladino. Claudio Lotito has already started looking around: among the names sounded are Fabio Pisacane and Thiago Motta, but in the last few hours a surprise suggestion has emerged, that of Sérgio Conceição. The Portuguese, who wore the biancoceleste jersey as a player between 1998 and 2000 and then again between 2003 and 2004, could free himself from Al-Ittihad after a disappointing season on the Saudi club’s bench, which ended in fifth place with more than thirty points behind champion Al Nassr.
