Jack Draper’s ordeal continues, as he has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon as well. After missing much of the season—including the Australian Open and Roland Garros—the British tennis player has been forced to make his most painful withdrawal yet: the London tournament: “This is definitely the most painful moment for me,” he said.

Problems with his right knee forced him to throw in the towel, even though just a few days ago the former world No. 4 had managed to reach the semifinals at Eastbourne, showing excellent form after his long forced break.

In an interview with the BBC, Jannik Sinner expressed great surprise and disappointment at Draper’s withdrawal and sent him a message that was greatly appreciated by fans: “He withdrew—I didn’t know that. I know him well on a personal level; it’s tough when you’re in so much physical pain. He really loves this sport; I hope he gets back on the court as soon as possible.”

“When he’s at his best, he’s one of the best players in the world, and he’s proven that for years. It’s a real shame—dealing with serious injuries is mentally tough. I hope he comes back soon; he played a great tournament in Eastbourne—what happened is really tough,” were Jannik’s words of encouragement.
