U.S. security forces are once again under fire for what happened in Dallas, Texas, on the eve of the match between Egypt and Australia in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. Upon the Pharaohs’ arrival, a scuffle broke out between members of the North African delegation and some police officers present at the scene.

Several videos are circulating on social media: the Egyptian players, having just arrived at the hotel, are signing autographs and taking selfies with some children in the hotel lobby, while chaos unfolds behind them. Some members of the Egyptian staff shoved several officers amid an atmosphere of pure tension, shouting, and intimidation.

According to reports, Egypt’s head coach, Hossam Hassan, flew into a rage after police tried to prevent a child from taking a photo with Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, better known by the nickname “Trezeguet,” in honor of the former Juventus star. His reaction reportedly sparked a heated exchange, followed by shoving and a brief scuffle. Eventually, the situation was brought under control.

This is not the first time this World Cup has sparked controversy over how U.S. law enforcement and authorities have handled foreign delegations. Just a few days ago, White House Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin caused a stir with his remarks about Iran’s elimination, admitting that he sang and danced with joy after the Iranian national team’s visas were revoked. This atmosphere points to much deeper tensions between the U.S. institutional apparatus and some of the national teams participating in this tournament.
