Boris Becker gets out of line on Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

The fight for the top of the ATP rankings is more open than ever between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who have not yet faced each other this season but dominate the world ranking by a wide margin. Former German champion Boris Becker in an interview with Adnkronos expressed his feelings after the start of the clay court season.
“Sinner has had an incredible March. Last year at this time he was disqualified, so he didn’t play in March, April, and actually until Rome he wasn’t allowed to play, so he has a lot of points to make up. On the other hand, Alcaraz won virtually every tournament from Monte Carlo until November. So the race is wide open, and Alcaraz had an amazing start to the season, winning in Melbourne.”
“At the moment, Jannik is in very good shape, but having said that, I think clay is his least favorite surface,” Becker explained. I think Alcaraz has a slight advantage, but if Sinner can get good results in Monte Carlo, in Madrid, in Rome, I think it will increase his chances of ending the year in first place,” Becker blurted out, who at the moment sees few opponents capable of countering the dominance of the two champions.
“I think of Sasha Zverev, who came close to winning a couple of times. If I remember correctly the semifinal in Melbourne, where he served for the match against Alcaraz, would have taken him to the final, it was a really close match. So, he should be in that group. And we have to mention Djokovic. As long as he’s playing professionally, you have to mention him. He is kind of in a separate category, though. He holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles on the men’s circuit with 24. But he also reached the final in Melbourne, and as long as he’s playing professionally, you always have to mention him.”
“But I would like to focus more on the younger players, like Arthur Fils, he’s 21 years old and if he’s in shape, I think in the future he can compete with Alcaraz and Sinner for Grand Slam titles, if he can keep this level. And I also really like the American Lerner Tien, he has been improving steadily and the fact that he has Michael Chang as his coach says a lot about his attitude. If nothing else, he wants to improve. And I want to mention Joao Fonseca, not only because he is on the Laureus list, but because I see him as very, very promising.”
