Trieste fans rise up against Bianchini

Monday morning’s Facebook post by Valerio Bianchini (“The protest of the Trieste fans is understandable. However, one cannot fail to note that the economic sustenance of basketball has been provided in the past by passionate patrons who put money from their own pockets. Basketball rested on them doing little to enhance its image by creating alternative resources. Now times have changed and the disappeared patrons need to be found alternative resources and a new way of managing the sports business by accepting change.”

Giacomo’s comments directly on his page unleashed the Trieste fans, who responded with dozens of comments.

Giacomo did not take it well: “I thought that a basketball man like you, certainly of value as a coach and whom I have read very often to feed my passion for the sport, had values at the base, and a sporting spirit to point out to the boys.” Massimino echoed him, “I think you made ample use of these patrons, instead of philosophizing from your position you could have proposed. I’d say it’s an unhelpful post.”

Saverio recoiled: “The change would be to make Trieste, a healthy club, disappear, in the playoffs and perhaps with placement for the BCL, to create a team in Rome from scratch? For goodness sake, the regulations allow it. But if this, dear Bianchini, is sport, then let’s stop all the talk about values, kids, nurseries, and goodism in general.”

Even heavier is Elena’s judgment: “You are a deep disappointment for basketball and its people. To take away the title from historic squares, with a passionate following, that the top series have earned it with sweat, toil, self-denial, passion and pride, to transfer it to a city, just because it is Rome, which in any case has its own team that is struggling to climb to A2, with a shortcut that has nothing to do with merit (or even passion) is a piece of crap. Then don’t come and tell me about benefits for the whole league because benefits (if any) with NBA Europe will only be enjoyed by Rome and Milan. I reiterate You are a great and profound disappointment, also acquired to the logic of money and power for the benefit of a few and at the expense of many.”

“Too bad, I believed her to be a man of real sports and values, we in Trieste can’t understand and don’t want these changes. When you have nostalgia for real basketball look at the Pala Trieste yesterday and on other occasions. I recommend listening to the words of two coaches who have come to Trieste lately (Spahija and Cotelli) younger than you but evidently still attached to the true value of basketball and cheering. A historic plaza like Trieste deserves respect and she knows that,” Dennis’ closing remark.
