Rumors about Calzavara: Udine enters the limelight

With an official note, Apu Udine intervened to clarify the rumors circulated in the last few days regarding the approach of Andrea Calzavara’s name to Olimpia Milano. The Friulian club, in particular, clarified that there is no hypothesis of sale of the player, denying the negotiation in order to avoid, as specified in the statement, to undermine “the serenity of the team and the working group.”
The club confirmed that the 2001 class point guard is bound to the club by a multi-year contract and is fully part of the technical programs. A position also confirmed by his agent, Riccardo Sbezzi, who to Messaggero Veneto reiterated, “Andrea is comfortable in Udine and remains where he is.” The club, therefore, further emphasized the trust placed in the player and the willingness to continue the path of growth undertaken together.
Born in Gallarate in 2001 and raised in the youth sector of Pallacanestro Varese, where he played three national finals in his category, Andrea Calzavara has built his reputation through a solid path in the lower categories, putting himself in the spotlight in Serie B with figures of 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists, before climbing the categories through experiences in Mantova, Monferrato and finally Brindisi, which in the 2024-25 season represented the ultimate stepping stone to Serie A.
On the stage of the top league, the point guard was able to quickly establish himself as one of the staples of coach Adriano Vertemati’s rotations. His best league performance of the season came right on Olimpia Milano’s parquet, where he put up 17 points on January 4. A haul that he replicated also in the Coppa Italia, in the Final Eight in Turin: in the quarterfinal against Germani Brescia he was practically the only one of the Friulians to hold up the offensive impact, finishing again with 17 points in a game in which Udine surrendered 78-64 to Leonessa dragged by Della Valle and Burnell.
The most significant recognition of his season, however, came on the national team front. Head coach Luca Banchi had already included him in his first Azzurri gathering in October 2025, putting him on a list composed mostly of young talent. Calzavara was then also confirmed in February 2026, when he was called up for the two 2027 World Cup qualifying matches against Great Britain, held in Newcastle and Livorno.
