Alex Schwazer clarifies his intentions after latest feat

Protagonist this past weekend in the German marching championships, in which he won the race held over the marathon distance, Alex Schwazer not only confirmed his competitiveness at 41 years of age but also did so as an amateur, dividing his life between work and training. And to those who ask him if he could be thought of seeing him at the European Championships in Birmingham in August, he answers without turning around too much.
“I’m not thinking about the European Championships, I don’t want to take anyone’s place away,” said the Sterzing native during an interview with ‘La Repubblica’. “If the Federation wanted to talk about it, however, I would make myself available. The continental event will be held between August 10 and 16: the march will award medals in four races, two men’s and two women’s, over the half-marathon and marathon distances.
Alex Schwazer, born in 1984, had returned to professional competition by marching in one last, for him symbolic, Fidal race, on July 19, 2024 in Arco di Trento, just days after the conclusion of his controversial second disqualification for doping. Since then, he has continued as an amateur, marching in various competitions in Italy and abroad, meanwhile taking up personal training in Merano.
“Today I don’t live only by marching as I once did, I am an amateur,” Schwazer confirmed, “and the satisfaction thinking about all the sacrifices I and those who support me have made is enormous.”
