MotoGP, Marc Marquez ends up under the knife after big scare

Marc Marquez will not be there in the upcoming Catalan Grand Prix and his presence at Mugello at the end of the month is in strong doubt. The centaur crashed on the last lap of the Sprint of the French GP and fractured his metatarsal and will take advantage of this ‘pit stop’ to fix his shoulder as well.
After Saturday afternoon’s Sprint, Marquez revealed, “I have to have surgery but I will take the opportunity to do everything together. We hadn’t announced it yet but I had already scheduled surgery on my right shoulder for the week after Barcelona, related to my accident last fall in Indonesia. Unfortunately, one of the screws had broken and another had shifted. By a few millimeters but it was pointing in the wrong direction and was touching the radial nerve causing me pain.”
“My erratic performance was also due to this, after Jerez I realized that something was wrong and I went to the doctor to figure out what it was and to do tests. It was there that we realized what had happened. Unfortunately, today on the penultimate lap of the Sprint I kind of relaxed and when the bike unseated me I wasn’t responsive enough.”
“It was a problem I was only feeling with the stresses of Grand Prix bikes and particularly with the position in the saddle. At home, on road bikes, and even in training with the dirt bike, the screw didn’t bother me. So now I’m taking the opportunity to have surgery on both my foot and shoulder: it’s a long but not particularly complicated operation, then it will all depend on recovery time. You will definitely not see me in the race in Barcelona, while for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello at the end of the month we will see,” Marquez concluded.
