The Internazionali d’Italia celebrated their new king: for the first time in his career, in fact, Jannik Sinner won the Rome Masters 1000, defeating in the final a Casper Ruud who was certainly willing but, 2-0 early on aside, rarely able to really challenge a prediction that already on the eve of the match saw him as an underdog against the world number one. 6-4, 6-4 was the final score of a match that, overall, lasted an hour and forty-five minutes.

After the difficult start, in fact, Jannik won six of the next eight games to close out the first set in 49 minutes, plus two more in a row at the beginning of the next game fraction. In front of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, numerous political and sporting authorities as well as past champions, Sinner very quickly makes people forget the very first hiccup with a show of authority that allows him to celebrate his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 after Paris 2025, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.

The victory allows, among other things, Jannik to further increase his ranking advantage over Carlos Alcaraz, who is absent in Rome as he will be at Roland Garros. Another reason for jubilation for fans of the South Tyrolean, who will see him at the top of the world ranking for several more weeks.

Ruud, who in the five direct clashes played with Jannik Sinner between 2020 and today, nevertheless has a reason to console himself precisely because of the ranking, as he will rise to the Top 15 at the next update. The Norwegian’s test is certainly more solid than the heavy 6-0, 6-1 he suffered last year, also in Rome, at the quarterfinal level, but it is not enough to get the better of him against a tennis player who, at the moment, does not seem to have any opponents capable of challenging him.

Now begins a much-needed rest period for Jannik Sinner, who has to recover from the exertions of no less than five Masters 1000s played in full in the space of just over two months. On the horizon, however, is already the next challenge, that of Roland Garros.Sinner will arrive there as the big favorite and, in addition to managing his physical condition, he will also have to measure himself against the weight of expectations that will inevitably accompany him to Paris.
