Brindisi, the Nicola Brienza hypothesis is gaining momentum

As anticipated by Sportal.it last Friday for Brindisi Nicola Brienza is more than an idea and confirmations are coming in that sense, even if the coach of the promotions from A2 to A of Pistoia (2023) and Cantù (2025) is not the only profile considered by the Apulian club. By now discarded the hypothesis linked to Massimo Cancellieri, who at the end of the playoffs could take the foreign route, the hypothesis linked to Antimo Marino remains on the table, but there are also those who talk about Pierluigi Brotto and further surprises are not to be ruled out for the post-Piero Bucchi.

It should be remembered that Brienza is not only followed by Brindisi: Sassari, which has said goodbye to Mrsic, has also put the Brianza coach in its sights for the next season in A2. A domino effect that could lead to unexpected scenarios. For the Campani, after all, the coach issue is already resolved with the signing of Piero Bucchi, who signed a two-year agreement with patron Nello Longobardi after leaving Brindisi at the end of the season.

Elect Bucchi, in introducing himself to his new square, said, “I am happy to start this new adventure with Scafati. In him I found enthusiasm, passion and desire to build an important season in Serie A. The promotion was the result of a great work of the company, the staff and the players. Now, however, a completely different championship begins, which will require great organization, balance and daily mentality.” An exit from the scene that has actually reshuffled the cards on the coaching market, opening new spaces precisely for profiles like Brienza.

As for Cancellieri, his exclusion from the race for the Brindisi bench finds confirmation in the broader picture concerning him: Dolomiti Energia CEO Andrea Nardelli revealed that back in February the coach had already communicated his decision not to renew with Trento at the end of the season. With his name being mentioned by clubs in Turkey, Greece and Spain, the Abruzzese technician seems oriented to return abroad, where he has previously coached Limoges, Strasbourg and PAOK Thessaloniki.

As for Pierluigi Brotto, mentioned among the possible candidates for the Apulian bench, his name is known to insiders mainly for his experience at the helm of Vanoli Cremona, where Luca Vitali, a former long player of the national team with 149 appearances in the Azzurri before retiring in 2024, also figured in the coaching staff. A profile, that of Brotto, which would guarantee continuity and knowledge of the cadet championship, characteristics that Brindisi, after the playoff disappointment with Bucchi, seems to want to put at the center of its project of revival.
