Jenson Button has returned to talk about the Triple Crown, or the milestone of winning the Monaco Grand Prix, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500. The former Formula 1 world champion addressed the subject in an interview with the official website of Aston Martin, a brand for which he is currently an ambassador. Despite having already achieved success in Monaco, the Briton admitted that his dream of completing the feat now appears very complicated: “I made a couple of attempts at Le Mans, but the victory still hasn’t come.”

During the interview, the Briton also opened up the possibility of taking part in Aston Martin’s Hypercar project in the future. In particular, Button did not hide the idea of driving the Valkyrie in the French classic: “I would love to drive the Aston Martin Valkyrie at Le Mans one day, maybe we can make it a reality.” Possible involvement in the endurance program would allow him to realize another personal goal: “It would be my opportunity to finally drive a car designed by Adrian Newey,” said the former McLaren and Brawn GP driver.

If Le Mans continues to attract him, the same cannot be said for Indianapolis. In fact, Button has completely ruled out the possibility of attempting the IndyCar adventure and thus chasing the third leg of the Triple Crown. The 2009 world champion explained that he does not feel suited to that type of competition: “I have enormous respect for those drivers, but it’s not for me.”

With Button out of the running, according to the Briton there is one name that stands out above all others in the challenge to the Triple Crown: Fernando Alonso. The Asturian has already claimed two of the three wins needed, winning the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while at Indianapolis he came close to the feat in his 2017 debut. For this reason, Button considers the two-time world champion the most credible candidate to make history: “Fernando probably has the best chance to complete the Triple Crown, because he won Monaco and Le Mans and came close to doing it in Indianapolis, where he also led the race,” said the Briton-if he wants to try again, no doubt he has a chance.”
