Lombardy Foil Grand Prix 2026: victories for Capitani and Monge in the Wing. Chieffo and Houze first in the Kite

Lake Garda sets Foil ablaze: Campione del Garda writes the history of the Lombardia Foil Grand Prix 2026. 45 athletes, three days of pure adrenaline and the first champions of the year – and the great show continues until June 13 with the ETF26 foil catamarans.
Three days of great foil sailing, capricious wind and pure spectacle on the waters of Lake Garda. From June 5-7, 2026, Campione del Garda hosted the first part of the Lombardy Foil Grand Prix 2026, with the Wingfoil and Kitefoil classes the protagonists of an intense and hard-fought competition. The event does not stop: from June 9 to 13, the same Garda waters will welcome the fast ETF26 foil catamarans for the grand finale of this extraordinary event.
WINGFOIL
With 38 entrants, the Wingfoil was extraordinarily well attended, confirming the exponential growth of this discipline in the national sailing scene. Lake Garda offered different conditions every day – as only Garda can do in this season – testing the technique and adaptability of each athlete along 12 races held.
Triumphing was Michele Capitani (ITA 29 – Tognazzi Marine Village), who finished with a net of only 12 points, dominating the fleet from start to finish. On the podium with him were Alessandro José Tomasi (ITA 48 – F.V. Riva) and Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA 33 – ASD Reef), both with 17 net points in a tight battle for second place.
Wingfoil winner: Michele Capitani – Tognazzi Marine Village – 12 net points
Wingfoil women’s winner: Marta Monge (10th overall) – Club del Mare Diano Marina | followed by Yana Li (China Sailing Team, 11th overall)
KITEFOIL: Chieffo leads a compact group
.
Seven athletes started for the Kitefoil, with an equally compelling battle along 12 trials. Massimo Chieffo (ITA 52 – Tognazzi Marine Village) came out on top with authority, finishing 13 points clear. Behind him Simone Romano (ITA 55 – Lega Navale Italiana Sestri Levante) and Luis Houze (ITA 57 – Club Nautico Rimini), separated by only one point.
Kitefoil winner: Massimo Chieffo – Tognazzi Marine Village – 13 net points, in the women’s field Elisa Houze (7th overall)
Garda: natural foil stage
.
Weather conditions made this first leg particularly challenging and fascinating: variable wind, morning thermals and afternoon gusts wrote a different script each day, rewarding the most complete and tactically prepared athletes. Campione del Garda confirmed itself as one of the most iconic locations for offshore sailing sports on Lake Garda.
Appointment with the ETF26
The first part of the Lombardia Foil Grand Prix 2026 closes with extraordinary results, but the event is far from over. From June 9-13, Campione del Garda will be back in the spotlight with the ETF26 foil catamarans, the most technological and spectacular boats in the fleet. Stay updated on our channels to follow the whole season.
The Lombardia Foil Grand Prix (June 5 to 14, 2026) is the first of three major sailing events that will populate Univela Campione del Garda. The Lombardia FOILGP will open Univela’s international season in early June, bringing together the Kite Foil – Wing Foil and ETF26 (Catamaran Foil) classes for a total of 80 athletes from 10 nations, including China, Ukraine, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Now in its seventh year, the event is also a symbol of sustainability: the foil, in fact, is a carbon structure equipped with “wings” that allows the boat to rise above the water, recalling technologies similar to those of the America’s Cup and the SailGP circuit. Eurosaf, the European sailing federation, has determined that this year’s competition will be valid and recognized as an Inclusive European Championship.
