Fiorentina: Giancarlo Antognoni Skips the Celebration

Fiorentina legend Giancarlo Antognoni has confirmed his decision to boycott the club’s centennial celebrations, scheduled for August 29 at the Franchi Stadium, highlighting the strained relationship with the club’s current ownership.
“Five years of coldness. I went to Rocco Commisso’s funeral and offered my condolences to the family out of courtesy and respect. I feel bad for the fans; I’ve always had a great relationship with them. But I’m not going—they invited me with the usual email, not even a phone call. Maybe I wouldn’t have gone anyway, but with a phone call, things might have turned out differently,” the former Fiorentina number ten told La Nazione, expressing his deep disappointment with how he was treated.
Fiorentina’s general manager, Alessandro Ferrari, urged him to reconsider: “The centennial is a time to celebrate our history, the players who have worn the Fiorentina jersey, and everyone who has carried the Viola in their hearts—whether on the field or in the stands. For this reason, we hope that Giancarlo, too, will choose to share such a special day with the Viola fans.”
On social media, Fiorentina fans are divided, but everyone would like him to be at the 100th-anniversary celebration.
