Marc Marquez Weighs In on His Contract Extension: There’s Also a Message for Pecco Bagnaia

In the wake of the official announcement, Marc Marquez spoke again about his contract renewal with Ducati and the reasons that led him to continue riding the Borgo Panigale-based team’s bike in MotoGP for the next two seasons, thereby dispelling any doubts that had arisen in recent months. Speaking to MotoGP’s official channels, the rider from Cervera also expressed his delight at Pedro Acosta’s arrival in 2027, though he avoided delving further into the topic out of respect for his current teammate, Pecco Bagnaia.
““I’m really happy to have renewed my contract with Ducati for another two years,” Marquez said bluntly. “I decided to take this step because I feel ready: my condition is improving day by day, and my goal is to continue on this path in 2027 and 2028 as well.”
“For me, it was crucial to feel Ducati’s confidence in me even during my injury,” the nine-time world champion added, speaking about his relationship with the Racing Department’s leadership. “The fact that they offered me a contract renewal right at the most difficult moment gave me a huge boost: knowing that they believe in you even when you’re not at your best makes everything easier.”
“Acosta? “Pedro is one of the fastest young riders on the grid,” Marquez added, speaking about his future teammate. “I’m convinced Ducati made the right choice. But that’s a topic I’ll address later: right now, there’s a championship to race, and my teammate is still Pecco, who deserves respect.”
After his victories at Balaton Park and Brno, Marc Marquez has made a strong comeback in the World Championship, closing the gap to 40 points behind leader Marco Bezzecchi: “I hope Assen is the last track where I have to make do a bit,” he admitted. “Even when I’m at my best, it’s a track that gives me trouble. We’ll see: we’ll start with FP1 and work step by step. Of course, coming off two consecutive wins provides enormous motivation.”
