Roma Transfer News: After much uncertainty, Paulo Dybala’s future finally seems to be taking shape. With four days left before his contract expires, the Argentine finally moved closer to the highly anticipated renewal agreement on Friday evening. His representatives reportedly presented a counteroffer to Roma’s management, which this time seems to be on the verge of being accepted.

Dybala, coming off a season marred by a meniscus tear but ending with strong performances and renewed confidence from Gian Piero Gasperini, has always emphasized his desire to stay at Roma. And he will likely get his wish, with a new contract providing for a salary of 3 million euros per season—figures that satisfy both him and the club.

This agreement comes after weeks of great apprehension and statements that were anything but reassuring. Just a few weeks ago, Dybala himself had fueled doubts about his future with cryptic remarks made in an interview with ‘ESPN Argentina’ from Córdoba, the city where he had returned during the summer break: “I haven’t decided yet what I’ll do next season. Until the end of June, I’m a Roma player, and out of respect for my club, I’d prefer not to say anything else. Return to Argentina? Anything can happen, but right now there’s nothing concrete.”

The path to this renewal has been long and winding. Back in May, when Roma was still fighting for a spot in the Champions League, Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun, had already initiated initial talks with the Giallorossi to lay the groundwork for a potential deal. Securing a spot in Europe’s top competition proved to be the real turning point, finally convincing the Argentine to consider staying in the capital.

A change in management during the middle weeks of the negotiations also complicated the situation: the groundwork for the renewal had been laid with former sporting director Massara, but the process had then stalled while the club sought his successor. With the arrival of Tony D’Amico—Atalanta’s former sporting director, who is now reunited with Gasperini—negotiations have finally regained momentum and are moving swiftly toward a successful conclusion.

Gasperini, for his part, had never hidden his desire to keep the Argentine playmaker, publicly reiterating on several occasions: “Everyone wants him to stay at Roma.” Those words have finally been backed up by action. In the meantime, Roma had nevertheless been working in parallel on possible alternatives for the attack, with the names of Mason Greenwood and Christian Pulisic circulating persistently in recent days. With Dybala’s contract extension now in the final stages, D’Amico can now focus on other pending matters, starting with the contract extensions for Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gianluca Mancini.
