Olimpia Milano has officially announced Ettore Messina’s departure in a statement published on the club’s website. EA7 thanked the head coach for his time in Milan, which included three league titles, two Italian Cups, and three Super Cups.

“At the conclusion of a fruitful seven-season partnership, Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano would like to thank Ettore Messina for his work in his dual roles as head coach and President of Basketball Operations, and for his contributions that have enabled the club to grow both on and off the court, on both the technical and organizational levels.”

“Under Coach Messina’s leadership, Olimpia won three league titles, two Italian Cups, and three Super Cups, as well as returning to the EuroLeague Final Four in 2021 after a 29-year absence. For all of this, Ettore Messina will always hold a prominent place in the club’s history.”

“Pallacanestro Olimpia and its ownership wish Ettore Messina all the best for his future.” Messina’s departure had been announced by the coach himself during the EuroLeague board meeting, before the Milan-based club released its official statement. Last November, Messina had already stepped down from his position as head coach, though he retained his role as president of basketball operations until the natural expiration of his contract in 2026.

Messina’s name has been repeatedly linked to Maxima Roma, the new Rome-based project led by California-based entrepreneur Paul Matiasic, who acquired the sports franchise rights to Germani Brescia and transferred them to Rome with the approval of the extraordinary Federal Council. Maxima Roma will participate in the upcoming EuroCup, having been admitted via a wild card after FIBA denied the team access to the Champions League.
