Among the pleasant surprises of last season’s Serie A was Juan Rodríguez, a young defender signed by Cagliari in the summer of 2025 for 4 million euros from the Uruguayan club Peñarol. After an initial adjustment period, the player has proven to be very reliable, and it’s no surprise that he has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs.

According to English sources, Juan Rodríguez is being sought after by at least three Premier League clubs and also has admirers in the Championship, England’s second division. Currently, the center back—born in 2005—has not expressed a desire to leave Sardinia, and Tommaso Giulini will do everything he can to keep him.

In an interview with ESPN a few weeks ago, the former Peñarol player spoke about settling in Italy: “Cagliari is beautiful; Uruguayans are treated very well there. Cagliari is like Uruguay—you can feel at ease, and there are beautiful beaches.”

Juan Rodríguez ended last season on a high note: on the final matchday, he scored the goal that secured Cagliari’s victory over Milan. His goal condemned the “Diavolo” to the Europa League, and Rodríguez received many insults from so-called fans on social media.
