The intercontinental phase of the Volleyball Nations League has come to a perfect close for Italy. The team led by head coach Julio Velasco completed a perfect run in Pool 8 in Hong Kong, defeating the host team China 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-12) at the end of an intense match played at the Kai Tak Arena.

Following victories over Ukraine, Belgium, and Canada, the Italian women’s team secured their fourth consecutive win in the third week of competition, demonstrating their strength and resilience. This highly significant victory allows Anna Danesi and her teammates to end the preliminary round of the tournament on a high note, solidifying their second-place finish in the overall standings—a position that was already mathematically secured before the match thanks to the United States’ decisive 3-0 victory over Brazil in Osaka.

Italy was able to bounce back after China mounted a comeback, regaining its brilliance in a dominant fourth set and maintaining composure during the decisive moments of the tiebreaker, thus securing a victory that serves as a major confidence boost ahead of the knockout stage.

The Italian team will not return to Italy after their match in Hong Kong. Instead, the squad will travel to nearby Macau, where they will have a few days to recover before beginning preparations for the Volleyball Nations League Finals, scheduled for July 22–26.
