Cagliari Transfer Market: Pablo Ceppelini Has Never Been This Close (Geographically)

Bellinzona has strengthened its midfield with the signing of Pablo Ceppelini. The Uruguayan attacking midfielder, born in 1991, joins the Granata after his most recent stint with Alianza Lima in Peru. The Ticino-based team competes in the Promotion League, Switzerland’s third division. Throughout his career, the 34-year-old has played for numerous clubs, including Cagliari and Lumezzane, gaining international experience in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

Pablo Ceppelini’s Italian adventure began in January 2011, when Cagliari decided to invest in the young Uruguayan midfielder by signing him on a permanent basis for approximately 2.35 million euros. In Sardinia, he chose the number 32 jersey, previously worn by Alessandro Matri. His Serie A debut came on May 8 of that same year, in a match Cagliari lost 2-0 to Cesena.

During his time with the Rossoblù, Ceppelini also played for the Primavera team, but his tenure at the Sardinian club subsequently went through a difficult period. In the summer of 2012, he was excluded from the preseason training camp and the roster following a three-match suspension for remarks directed at the referee during a Primavera league match against Torino.

Ceppelini returned to the first team on November 26, 2012, coming on as a late substitute in the home match against Napoli. A few months later, in January 2013, Cagliari decided to send him on loan to Lumezzane, coached by Gianluca Festa. With the Lombardy-based team, he made his debut against Südtirol and also found the back of the net, scoring on April 28 against Treviso. After that stint ended, in September 2013, Ceppelini left Sardinia once again on loan, moving to Maribor in the Slovenian top division.
