Juventus Transfer Market: David’s Third “No” Stalls the Bianconeri; a Key Player Could Leave

Jonathan David is putting the brakes on Juventus’s transfer activity. The Canadian forward, one of last season’s most disappointing players, has turned down a third offer from abroad and seems increasingly determined to stay in Turin, unless an offer he can’t refuse comes along.
According to rumors, David has also turned down Premier League club Hull City because he isn’t convinced by their coaching philosophy. The North American forward wants to prove himself in Turin even though Luciano Spalletti doesn’t include him in his plans and David has slipped to the bottom of the Bianconeri’s attacking pecking order.
The Canadian player, who in recent weeks had turned down a return to Ligue 1 by rejecting advances from Rennes and Lens, is waiting for a more substantial offer that guarantees him an adequate salary. Otherwise, he’ll stay in Turin, backed by a contract with the Old Lady that runs through 2030. As long as David remains, Juventus won’t be able to make a move for Joshua Zirkzee, the Dutch forward set to leave Manchester United and long a target for Juventus.
Paradoxically, the Bianconeri’s attack could instead lose a starter: Francisco Conceição is being courted by Chelsea, and anything could happen in the final days of the transfer window. Luciano Spalletti is counting on him and considers him a key part of the team (he will most likely start against Frosinone in the season opener), but a substantial offer from London could change the situation: if an offer of 50 million euros were to arrive, Juventus management might sit down at the table and negotiate with the London club.
David’s situation has been dragging on for weeks now. The Canadian, who arrived on a free transfer from Lille a year ago, has proven to be a disappointment with just 7 goals in 39 official appearances, while earning a net salary of 6 million euros per season that weighs heavily on the club’s finances. A telling sign of his standing had already emerged in recent days, when he was left off the roster for the traditional intra-club friendly against Juventus Next Gen: a clear message from Spalletti and the club.
