Tragedy at the 1000 Miglia Rally: Spectator Run Over in Front of His Wife and Daughter

A terrible tragedy occurred at the 1000 Miglia Rally: a spectator was struck by a race car during Saturday’s special stage in Valsabbia, between Casto and Bione, in the Brescia area. The man, a 63-year-old resident of Caselle Torinese, was standing by the roadside with his wife and daughter when a Skoda Fabia struck him just after exiting a right-hand hairpin turn. Immediate rescue efforts were in vain: his injuries were too severe.

The organizers immediately decided to suspend the competition, which was scheduled to conclude on Sunday in downtown Brescia. “We wish to express our deepest condolences to the victim’s family. There isn’t much to say. The pain is immense,” said Aldo Bonomi, president of Aci Brescia. “We dispatched emergency responders immediately, but according to initial findings, the spectator died instantly. On behalf of ourselves, the Mille Miglia Rally organization, and the entire staff, I wish to express our deepest condolences for the victim and our sympathy to his family.”

The relatives of the deceased were unharmed and suffered no injuries. The man was reportedly standing near a curve to take a photograph when he was struck by the car, which came to rest in a ditch.

The District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the facts surrounding the accident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m. The driver of the car that veered off the road and his co-driver were taken to the hospital, but their conditions are not believed to be serious.
