Spalletti had this to say about the new Luiz-Koopmeiners midfield pairing: “Douglas is a reliable player; he’s proven his strength in many situations: he just needed to regain confidence in his abilities, and now that he has, he’s fully regained his form. When he first arrived, he held onto the ball a bit too long and dragged the play; now he’s realized that the more he moves it, the more touches he gets. Koopmeiners? The difference lies in the playing time he’s given, because when his opportunity to showcase his qualities is limited to 15–20 minutes, the pressure on him increases. Now he’s much freer and more relaxed; we’ll try to give him a role where he feels a bit more at ease, even though he’s an all-around player.”
