Verona is on edge over Tobey: there is a buyout clause, and Olimpia can offer him triple the salary

Olimpia Milano continues to closely monitor Mike Tobey, the center for Tezenis Verona, who has been identified as a potential reinforcement for the frontcourt following Devin Booker’s serious injury; Booker is expected to be sidelined for at least three months. Il Corriere di Verona is reporting on the latest developments, noting that the Verona-based club must contend with the possibility of losing one of its most important players.
The Slovenian big man is reportedly one of the Milanese club’s top transfer targets at the moment, although as of Friday evening, no official contact had been made with his agent or the Verona management. The timing could also be influenced by the situation on the Biancorossi’s coaching staff, following the firing of Peppe Poeta and the possible arrival of Luca Banchi.
Olimpia’s interest, however, appears to be genuine, especially in light of Tobey’s performances so far this season. The Tezenis center is averaging 18.2 points and 11.8 rebounds, with a field goal percentage of over 90% on two-point shots. These outstanding numbers earned him the Serie A MVP award for the month of October.
One factor that could facilitate a potential transfer is the player’s contract. According to the Verona-based newspaper, during summer negotiations, Gialloblù sporting director Bolognesi reportedly agreed to include an exit clause tied to offers from EuroLeague clubs, which can be exercised by paying a buyout fee.
This solution was designed to convince Tobey to commit to the Scaligera project while still leaving him the option to return to Europe’s most prestigious stage. The center boasts an impressive resume, having played four seasons in the EuroLeague, two in the Spanish league, and having won one EuroCup during his career.
From a financial standpoint as well, Milan would have strong arguments to convince the player. Olimpia could, in fact, offer him a salary at least three times higher than what he currently earns in Verona, although it is unlikely that Tobey would have the same starring role he holds today with the Gialloblù.
What makes his profile even more appealing is his Slovenian passport, which would be an advantage for the Milan club in managing the slots reserved for non-EU players. In the background, the name of Daniel Theis also remains in the mix; he is an alternative with international experience but would require a significantly larger financial investment.
