Paolo Bertolucci explains the defeats of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
In his “Volée di Roves” column in the Gazzetta dello Sport, Paolo Bertolucci analyzes Jannik Sinner’s defeat against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo at the Internazionali d’Italia: “He had not entered the court with the usual concentration that has accompanied him during the scintillating ride of the last three months. A bad day that will now have to be evaluated on the Parisian horizon. The great progress put on display is certainly not in question.”
Then one of the iconic men of our tennis also seeks an explanation for Carlos Alcaraz’s defeat, which was even more unexpected than Sinner’s: “It was all too obvious that the new generation could not be as granitic as the Big Three, with the consequence that we will have to get used to stumbles like Sinner’s or Alcaraz’s, for which we were not prepared. And even less so seem to be the Italian fans who trusted that they could dream in this tournament. Our players are young, they need to be protected and not coddled, waiting for complete maturation.”
