NBA basketball, Ja Morant accepts maxi-skilling and makes a promise
Ja Morant accepts maxi-disqualification imposed on him by NBA
The NBA has disqualified Ja Morant for 25 games because of behavior described as “harmful” and “potentially dangerous if emulated” by the North American league’s top brass. Morant, man-franchise of the Memphis Grizzlies, will thus miss more than a quarter of the upcoming regular season, as punishment for the video posted on Instagram in which he handled a firearm: after an initial video of a similar nature, he had already missed eight games during the just-concluded season. During the NBA-mandated stoppage next fall, Morant will not draw a salary: he will lose about $7.5 million of the $33.5 set by contract.
After the announcement of the maxi-skilling on Friday, Ja Morant issued a statement on the matter, accepting the punishment: “I have had time to reflect and realize how much pain I have caused,” he said. “I want to apologize to the NBA, the Grizzlies, my teammates and the city of Memphis. During the off-season and the disqualification period I will continue to work on my mental health. I will also continue training so that I will be ready when I can return to the court. I hope you will all give me a chance to prove over time that I am a better man than I have shown so far.”
