Milena Bertolini leaves women’s national team, several guesses for succession

A few hours after the bitter defeat against South Africa, which forced the women’s national team to say goodbye already after the group stage of the World Cup being held in New Zealand and Australia, the names of the successor to Milena Bertolini, who is leaving the role of technical commissioner she held since 2017, are already beginning to circulate.

The only female candidate, at the moment, would be Patrizia Panico: the former national team striker, fresh from her experience at the helm of Fiorentina women’s team, had already declared in the past months that she would never say no to a call and is undoubtedly waiting for news from this point of view.

There are, then, several other hypotheses involving men: the first is the former vice coach of the men’s national team Alberico Evani, who has already declined in the past but, given the rupture of the relationship with Roberto Mancini, might decide to retrace his steps; others, such as Joe Montemurro (coach of the women’s Juventus team), have expressed interest but would like to continue their work with their home club.

Like Evani, Paolo Nicolato is also familiar with the federal environment: fresh from the European bitterness with the Under 21, the 1966-born coach could decide to accept the challenge of coaching the Azzurre, whose next goal is to do as well as possible in the first edition of the UEFA Women’s Nations League, which will kick off in the second half of September.
