The Alpine parallel giant slalom season is off to a great start for the blue colors
The World Cup parallel giant slalom season in snowboarding could hardly have started better for the Italian colors: winning the men’s season opener, hosted by the Pra di Tori slope in Carezza, in the province of Bolzano, è in fact, it was Maurizio Bormolini, who beat the other Italian Edwin Coratti in the very final.
The two Italians had won their respective semifinals by defeating Gian Casanova of Switzerland and Banjamin Carl of Austria, respectively. The latter, beating the Swiss in the final round, è then won third place in today’s competition. For Bormolini è it was his third World Cup success, his first in a parallel giant, and seventh podium finish overall. For Coratti è on the other hand, it was podium number 17 in his career.
"It’ incredible. It’ my first victory in a parallel giant. It’ a great emotion, really incredible" said Bormolini at the end of the race, to the official Fisi channels. "At’the beginning I struggled a bit’ to find the best condition. Then in the semifinals and finals è everything went right. We worked well during the preparation on the glaciers and in the end the results show. Now C’è Cortina where we will definitely find good conditions and we will see. We are a very strong team, with many athletes who can get results".
Satisfied, despite the defeat in the finals, also Coratti: "Today we were strong from the start,” he said, again at the Fisi microphones. It's an important thing that we almost all made it to the finals. I worked a lot on the material, and it worked very well. Then in the round of 16 it è broke, and I had to manage. But I managed to make it to the end".
