È died in Los Angeles at age 76 Carl Weathers, the actor famous for playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky saga films. This was announced by his family in a statement:
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. È passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he left an indelible mark and è was recognized around the world and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend".
Born in New Orleans on Jan. 14, 1948, Weathers embarked on a linebacking career in football, playing for one season as a pro in 1970 with the Oakland Raiders. But he later attempted an acting career, beginning with small roles in TV series.
Planetary success forò came with the first Rocky movie in 1976, handpicked by Sylvester Stallone in auditions for the role of his antagonist in the ring, Apollo Creed. He will also act in the next three Rocky films but also in action films such as Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Predator (1987), Action Jackson (1988) and Hurricane Smith (1992) but also in An Unpredictable Guy (1996). È was married to Mary Ann Castle, by whom he had two children.
