Roland Garros, Elisabetta Cocciaretto overwhelmed by Coco Gauff in the round of 16
In the round of 16 of the women’s singles final at Roland Garros Elisabetta Cocciaretto, at her first appearance at this level of the Slam board therefore probably also particularly tense and nervous, è was overwhelmed by the world number 3, the American Coco Gauff, with the unequivocal score of 6-1 6-2.
The first set è terrible for Elisabetta: only 2 points of the first 21 and 0-5 with double break disadvantage, then miraculously the number 51 of the ranking held the serve but of course then she had to surrender at the second of two set points on her opponent’s serve.
The second set seems to be born differently: three breaks in the first three games, but two are in favor of Coco, who on her serve concedes nothing more and indeed, makes another break on 4-2 and then closes the match after a’split hour of play.
In the quarterfinals Coco, who is playing with Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka for the second world ranking, will face the winner between Danish Clara Tauson and Tunisian Ons Jabeur. For Cocciaretto a good tournament that puts her momentarily in the live ranking at number 43, but the goal in the coming tournaments è to climb higher than her current best ranking, 29.
