The team is banking heavily on its very young star.

Spain at Euro 2024 with a squad made up of a mix of veterans, youngsters and even very young players. Among the latter stands out Lamine Yamal, a 2007 Barcelona starlet who will therefore take part in his first European Championships as a 16-year-old. An age that does not scare his teammate Unai Simon, who is ten years older than him and has guaranteed that age will not be a problem for the striker.

Interviewed by 'SportWeek', Simon assured that he is not at all frightened by the fact that Yamal will turn 17 just the day before the Euro 2024 final. "Not at all,” the Spain goalkeeper explained, “The thing we can do is è take advantage of his qualities. I watch him and admire him for what he does on the field, if anything he should be afraid of himself for how è precocious he is. At 16 years old he already manages to play at the highest level of world football".

"Still è underage, but his personality è è incredible,” added Simon referring again to Yamal. Few of us can say that we have been at that level, at that age'è. Spain then è a mix of young and experienced. And this mix è is fundamental, as we help each other and grow. With players of the weight of Morata and Rodri, and people like Carvajal, Nacho and Joselu we have very good potential".

The spotlight is però especially on Lamine Yamal, and Simon is not hiding: "I think he can be among the stars of Euro 2024. We already know him, and we know what a great player he is. The important thing forò è is not to put all the weight of the team on the shoulders of a teenager. We will all have to make an effort, and if we succeed then Spain will be among the protagonists of the'European".
